What changed between versions
General elections for school board members now occur on the first Tuesday of April after the first Monday in November of even-numbered years, instead of the previous April date.
Primary elections are now held on the second third Tuesday in February or June of even-numbered years, except when a Presidential Preferential Primary is held in February.
Board district boundaries must now follow clearly visible physical boundaries based on census criteria, with a maximum 10% population variance between districts.
Elementary school districts must have board members elected at large rather than from specific board districts.
Independent school districts with four or more wards and an outlying area comprising up to 20% of the population may adopt wards and outlying areas instead of board districts, with at least one board member representing each ward.
School districts with fewer than 1,800 students may choose to elect all board members at large instead of creating board districts.
Temporary positions and the chair of the board elected under Section 5-107B are excluded when determining board size for election purposes.
