Revise the practice of certified registered nurse anesthetists
What changed between versions
Added new definitions for 'Advanced practice registered nurse', 'Practice of nursing as an advanced practice registered nurse', 'Dialysis care', 'Dialysis technician', 'Dialysis technician intern', 'Certified community health worker', 'Medication aide', 'Nursing specialty', 'Physician assistant', 'Podiatrist', 'Dentist', and 'Outsourcing facility'.
Modified the definition of 'Licensed practical nurse' to explicitly limit their scope to the direction of a registered nurse or specific licensed professionals (physicians, physician assistants, dentists, podiatrists, optometrists, or chiropractors).
Modified the definition of 'Licensed health professional authorized to prescribe drugs' to explicitly include CRNAs, but only to the extent of their authority under specific sections of the nursing code.
Added new requirements for CRNAs to perform patient care activities only upon a verbal or written request from a collaborating dentist, physician, or podiatrist, and defined 'health care facility' for this purpose.
Modified the definition of 'Collaboration' to specify that CRNAs must have a dentist, physician, or podiatrist actively engaged in practice available to communicate with them, with specific limitations on anesthesia administration in podiatrist offices.
Added new sections requiring health care facilities to notify patients verbally and in writing that a CRNA, physician, podiatrist, or dentist will administer anesthesia.
Added new requirements for respiratory care practitioners to practice only pursuant to orders from specific advanced practice nurses who have entered into standard care arrangements with physicians.
