Provides for any city, town or village in the state of New York to control the town speed limits

This bill (S 6710) gives New York cities, towns, and villages the authority to set their own speed limits on local roads below the state's default 55 mph limit. Local governments can establish maximum speeds as low as 25 mph on their own highways (excluding state or county roads), with school zones allowed to have 15 mph limits for up to 1,320 feet near school entrances. The bill does not affect speed limits on state or county-maintained roads. It takes immediate effect upon enactment.
