Proposes an amendment to section 2 of article 3 of the constitution, in relation to increasing term limits and limiting the number of terms

S 6192 would amend the state constitution to extend legislative term lengths and adjust term limits for future legislators. Starting with the 2026 elections, senators would serve six-year terms (up from two years) and assembly members four-year terms (up from two years). It would limit senators to three consecutive six-year terms (with eligibility to serve another three after a one-term break) and assembly members to four consecutive four-year terms (with the same reset option). These changes would only apply to terms beginning after the amendment is adopted.
