Increases the time frame for payments of certain expenses by adoptive parents

S 5737 extends the time frame for adoptive parents in New York to pay the birth mother's reasonable expenses, such as housing, maternity clothing, and transportation. The bill changes the period from 60 days before birth and 30 days after birth to 180 days before birth and 45 days after birth (or 45 days after parental consent, whichever is later). This adjustment applies to all adoptive parents arranging an adoption in New York State and does not alter the types of expenses covered. A court may still approve extensions beyond this period for exceptional circumstances.
