Relates to abolishing the office of coroner

This bill eliminates the elected office of coroner in most New York counties (excluding Lewis and Madison), requiring counties to replace it with a medical examiner position. Counties must adopt a local law to abolish the coroner role at least 150 days before a general election, subject to a public referendum. Current coroners' terms end at the next general election, and no new coroners will be elected after the change takes effect. The law becomes effective January 1 following its enactment.
