S 3605 New York Senate · 2025 Regular Session

Allows boards of cooperative educational services to install school bus stop sign cameras

This bill allows counties, cities, towns, villages, and school district boards (BOCES) to implement photo enforcement systems on school buses to capture vehicles failing to stop at school bus stop signs. Local governments would pay all costs for installing and maintaining the cameras, while school districts handle image storage and forwarding to the local government. The cameras can only photograph traffic violations (not school-related issues), and images cannot be used in school disciplinary proceedings. This applies to school buses operated by public or contracted services within participating localities.
