Relates to abolishing the office of coroner

This bill eliminates the elected or appointed position of county coroner in most New York counties (excluding Lewis and Madison), replacing it with a medical examiner system. County boards of supervisors can propose abolishing coroners 150 days before an election, subject to a public vote, and must transition to medical examiners by the next general election. Current coroners' terms end when a medical examiner is appointed and qualified, with no new coroners elected after the transition. The law would take effect January 1 following its enactment, directly affecting county governments and death investigation processes.
