Relates to the filling of vacancies in the office of attorney general or comptroller

This bill changes how New York State fills vacancies in the offices of Attorney General or Comptroller. It requires that when a vacancy occurs (excluding removals), the state legislature must appoint a replacement through a two-thirds vote in each house (Assembly and Senate), rather than a joint ballot. This means both chambers must separately approve the appointee with a supermajority vote. The change applies to vacancies caused by resignation, death, or other non-removal reasons, and takes effect immediately.
