Relates to compensation for injury or death of a companion animal

This bill allows pet owners to seek financial compensation if someone carelessly, recklessly, or intentionally causes unjustifiable injury or death to their companion animal. Owners could sue for damages, and courts would consider the emotional bond between the owner and pet when determining compensation. The law also permits additional penalties (punitive damages) for intentional or reckless harm. It defines "companion animal" using an existing agricultural law definition and would take effect 30 days after enactment.
