Sets certain requirements for side under-ride guards

Bill A 2351 requires large trucks (26,000+ lbs gross weight) with conventional cab configurations operating in New York City and other cities with over 1 million residents to install side under-ride guards on their sides within 24 months. These guards prevent pedestrians, bicyclists, and passenger vehicles from being trapped under trucks during collisions. The law excludes state and city fleet vehicles (covered under separate provisions) and allows exemptions for practical or safety reasons. The commissioner will create rules for inspections and compliance, with the bill taking effect 180 days after enactment.
