A 2165 New York Assembly · 2025 Regular Session

Relates to posting of private property

This bill allows property owners and renters to legally prevent unauthorized entry by marking their land with specific purple markings. Owners may paint vertical purple lines (8+ inches long, 3-5 feet high) on trees or posts up to 100 feet apart, or use marked posts (3-5.5 feet high, 36 feet apart), making the markings clearly visible. It requires agreement from all adjacent property owners before marking shared fences. The Agriculture Department must also run a public campaign explaining the marking rules.
