New Jersey's S 2693 requires all new passenger cars manufactured in the state to include rear-seat detection systems. These systems must automatically detect unattended children or pets in the back seat after the engine turns off and trigger audible, visual, and physical alerts to the driver. The law prohibits disabling or overriding the system and allows for optional emergency alert features. It applies only to vehicles made after the law takes effect (two years post-enactment), not older models.
