This bill allows spouses and unmarried children of public safety workers who died while on duty or within 24 hours of duty to apply for reimbursement of the first six months of federal COBRA health insurance costs. Dependents must have been covered under the deceased worker’s employer or New Jersey’s State Health Benefits Program until death. The state appropriates $750,000 annually to cover these reimbursements, with funds distributed pro rata if demand exceeds available funds. It applies to police, firefighters (paid/volunteer), correctional officers, and emergency responders.
