Allows school district to appoint certain specialists to provide school security services to schools.

This bill (A 792) allows New Jersey school districts to appoint qualified "school security specialists" to provide security services at schools. These specialists must have at least 20 years of law enforcement experience (in a supervisory role), pass background checks, complete specific training (including active shooter response and firearms), and be employed by licensed security companies. The bill requires annual refresher training on active shooter response and firearms, and permits specialists to carry handguns only under strict conditions, such as having a valid carry permit and written school authorization. It does not replace existing requirements for school districts to designate safety specialists under current law.
