This bill (A 244) requires New Jersey's Police Training Commission to create a mandatory training course on school emergency response, including active shooter threats and lockdown drills. All local police officers in the state must complete this training: new hires before becoming permanent officers, and current officers within 36 months of the law's effective date. The training will be delivered by police departments during regular in-service sessions. The law takes effect immediately.
