Requires emergency shelters for the homeless to admit certain persons unless they pose danger.

This bill requires New Jersey emergency homeless shelters to admit individuals who are drug or alcohol dependent, not following prescribed medication regimens, or who consumed alcohol off-site - unless the person poses a danger to self, others, or property. It expands existing law (which already prohibited denial based on mental illness) to cover these additional categories of people seeking shelter. Shelters may still refuse admission for safety reasons or under other authorized legal exceptions, and they retain the right to ban controlled substances or alcohol consumption on their premises. The law takes effect immediately.
