This bill requires long-term care facilities in New Jersey (including nursing homes and assisted living residences) to meet with each resident at least once yearly to check if their existing "proxy directive" is still accurate and current. A proxy directive is a legal document naming a person to make decisions if the resident loses capacity, but the bill does not force residents to create one. Facilities must review any existing directive during these annual meetings to ensure it reflects the resident's current wishes. The law takes effect immediately upon enactment.
