S 2529 requires New Jersey's Department of Education to create a new teaching credential focused on culturally responsive practices. This credential will introduce educators to methods that acknowledge and embrace students' cultural backgrounds to promote equitable learning opportunities. The Department must develop the credential in partnership with the Diverse and Learner-Ready Teachers Initiative and make it available to teachers starting in the first full school year after the bill becomes law. The bill defines culturally responsive teaching as using research-based strategies to connect classroom learning to students' cultures, languages, and personal experiences.
