This bill creates a Private Career School Student Tuition Protection Fund to refund students if a private career school closes unexpectedly. Private career schools in New Jersey must contribute to the fund (capped at $2.5 million) based on enrollment, with payments made quarterly or upon initial approval. Students enrolled in closed schools can receive refunds for uncompleted courses or tuition paid, prioritizing transfers to other schools or direct refunds up to their paid amount. The fund is managed by the State Treasurer and covers costs after schools’ performance bonds are exhausted. It applies specifically to private career schools, not all postsecondary institutions.
