This bill (S 1664) allows small municipalities and counties (with populations under 5,000 or specific small entities) to require people requesting government records to access them directly from the agency’s website instead of processing the request in person. If records are available online, the government must provide the exact website link and document location; requesters without computer access can still get records through traditional methods. The law applies to all public records requests but maintains existing exemptions for sensitive information like social security numbers and ensures no fees are charged for crime victims.
