S 1413 New Jersey Senate · 2024-2025 Regular Session

Requires health insurance coverage of preimplantation genetic testing with in vitro fertilization under certain conditions.

This bill requires health insurance plans covering groups of 50+ people to include coverage for preimplantation genetic testing during in vitro fertilization (IVF) when used to prevent specific serious genetic conditions in offspring. It applies to cases where both partners carry a recessive disorder, one partner carries a disorder with a family history, or the condition would cause severe disability. Insurers must cover these services under the same terms as other pregnancy-related care, but exclude infertility resulting from voluntary sterilization. Religious employers can opt out of this coverage if it conflicts with their religious beliefs, with clear written notice required for subscribers.
