S 1398 New Jersey Senate · 2024-2025 Regular Session

Increases disclosure of political contributions by business entities with public contracts; creates uniform law for contributions by such entities; repeals local option to set contribution limits for business entities.

This bill prohibits businesses with state, county, or municipal contracts exceeding $17,500 from making political contributions to certain committees during the contract term and for the previous year. It creates uniform rules across all government levels (executive, legislative, local), banning contributions to committees tied to the Governor/Lieutenant Governor, legislative leadership, or local elected officials. Businesses holding qualifying contracts cannot contribute to these committees while the contract is active, and committees cannot accept such contributions during the contract period. The bill repeals existing local laws that allowed different contribution limits for businesses with government contracts.
