This bill requires all new passenger vehicles manufactured in New Jersey to include rear-seat detection systems that automatically alert drivers if a child or pet is left unattended in the back seat after the engine is turned off. The systems must detect occupants, provide audible, visual, and physical warnings, and cannot be disabled or overridden. It applies only to vehicles made in New Jersey after the law takes effect (two years post-enactment), with no retroactive requirement for older vehicles.
