This New Jersey bill (A3740) makes it illegal for estate administrators to follow wills requiring the euthanasia of a healthy pet. It voids any will provision directing the killing of a "domestic companion animal" (defined as a pet kept for companionship, not for business or farming). The law applies to all estate managers, including executors and trustees, and states such provisions violate public policy. It takes effect immediately upon enactment.
