Prohibits possession of firearm by person convicted of animal cruelty.

This bill prohibits individuals convicted of animal cruelty from possessing firearms or obtaining firearm permits. It amends New Jersey law to specifically add any crime or offense constituting animal cruelty (as defined in Chapter 22 of Title 4 of the Revised Statutes) to the list of offenses that disqualify someone from firearm ownership or purchase. Under the bill, convicted animal cruelty offenders would be barred from purchasing, owning, possessing, or controlling firearms, and would not be eligible for a firearms purchaser identification card or handgun permit. Violating this law would be a fourth-degree crime punishable by up to 18 months in prison, a fine of up to $10,000, or both.
