Establishes Organized Retail Theft Prosecution Unit in DLPS.

This bill creates a new Organized Retail Theft Prosecution Unit within New Jersey's Department of Law and Public Safety to specifically address organized retail theft. The unit, led by a designated coordinator, will investigate and prosecute cases involving multiple retail thefts or repeat offenders, and assist county prosecutors in these efforts. County prosecutors must refer cases to the unit if a defendant has committed two or more retail thefts in New Jersey, one or more in New Jersey plus one or more in another state, or has prior retail theft convictions. The unit must annually report to the Governor and Legislature on its work, including prosecution statistics and recommendations to reduce retail theft.
