AJR 6-82 Nevada Assembly · 2025 Regular Session

Proposes to amend the Nevada Constitution to adopt the National Popular Vote Compact. (BDR C-389)

This bill proposes amending Nevada's constitution to join the National Popular Vote Compact (NPVIC), which would change how Nevada appoints presidential electors. Under this change, Nevada's electors would automatically vote for the presidential candidate who wins the national popular vote (across all participating states), rather than the candidate who wins Nevada's popular vote. The compact only takes effect when states representing at least 270 electoral votes (a majority) adopt it in the same form. Nevada would need to pass the resolution through both legislative chambers and secure voter approval before it becomes part of the state constitution. This would not alter how Nevada conducts its presidential election but would shift the method for selecting its electors based on national results.
