Interim study to explore systemic and logistical barriers that prevent meaningful civic participation among residents in high-poverty and marginalized communities in Nebraska

This bill (LR 214) is an interim study resolution, not a law. It directs Nebraska's Government, Military and Veterans Affairs Committee to examine systemic and logistical barriers - such as language access, transportation gaps, lack of childcare, limited civic knowledge, and historical disenfranchisement - that hinder civic participation in high-poverty and marginalized communities. The study will assess how state and local systems could be restructured to ensure equitable access to democratic engagement. The committee will report its findings and recommendations to the Legislature after completing the study.
