Revise laws related to the judicial standards commission
This bill amends Montana law to allow the Speaker of the House to appoint a person to fill anticipated vacancies on the Judicial Standards Commission. It establishes a legislative nomination panel composed of House representatives, including at least one from the minority party, to recommend candidates for the commission. When a vacancy occurs or is expected, the Speaker notifies district court judges who provide a list of willing candidates, and the panel selects at least three names for the Speaker to choose from. The new process takes effect immediately upon passage and approval.
