LC 1970 Legislature · 2025 Regular Session

Require mandatory reporting of deer and elk hunting activity

This bill requires hunters in Montana who hold licenses for deer or elk to report their hunting activity to the Department of Fish, Wildlife, and Parks. Hunters must submit details such as harvest success, hunting locations, and dates for each animal they hunt during the license year. To encourage compliance, the bill offers a bonus point for either deer or elk if reports are submitted by February 15, and imposes an administrative fee of $5 to $50 on those who fail to report before the end of their license year. The department is tasked with creating a system to collect these reports, and the law takes effect on March 1, 2026.
