LC 1734 Legislature · 2025 Regular Session

Revise statewide ballot issue laws

This bill requires Montana legislators to vote on statewide ballot initiatives and referendums within 20 days of receiving them, with their results displayed on the official voter information pamphlet and ballot. The Secretary of State will mail ballots to each legislator asking whether they support, oppose, or have no position on each measure, and these votes will be tallied and included in the materials voters receive before an election. The changes apply to both citizen-initiated measures and legislative referendums, ensuring voters can see how their representatives voted on the same issues they will decide on.
