LC 1345 Legislature · 2025 Regular Session

Provide county notification for certain property tax adjustments

This bill requires the Montana Department of Revenue to notify counties when preliminary property valuations show a decrease of over $1.5 million since the last reappraisal. The notification must be sent electronically to the county along with the original or revised classification notice to property owners and include both the prior and preliminary market values. Additionally, the department must meet with the county upon request and provide any public information used to establish the preliminary valuation, though this requirement does not apply to class four residential property. The changes will take effect for property tax years beginning on or after January 1, 2026.
