Establishes provisions relating to civil actions for abuse, bullying, or neglect of certain persons with disabilities
HB 283 changes the statute of limitations for people with disabilities to file lawsuits about past abuse, bullying, or neglect. Minors under 18 can file within 37 years after turning 18 or 7 years from when they reasonably discover the injury - whichever is later. Adults 18+ have 7 years from discovery to file a claim. The law applies to injuries occurring on or after August 28, 2025, as defined under Missouri law.
