Requires newly purchased or contracted school buses of a school district to be zero-emission vehicles, beginning January 1, 2036

This bill requires Missouri school districts to purchase or contract for only zero-emission school buses for all new vehicles beginning January 1, 2036. It allows districts facing terrain or route challenges to request a one-time five-year extension (through the Department of Natural Resources) if they demonstrate zero-emission technology isn’t feasible for their routes. Smaller districts (under 350 average daily attendance) may seek annual extensions until 2046 under similar feasibility conditions. The requirement applies to buses used for transporting students to/from school or school events, excluding standard charter or public transit buses.
