What changed between versions
Section 6 was deleted in its entirety. It had granted the Public Service Commission authority to temporarily reconstitute the board of any rural water system found to be providing inadequate service, with a new board election required within 90 days.
The $500,000 annual disbursement from the Revolving Loan Fund for three employee salaries was redirected. Previously it paid employees hired directly by the Mississippi Rural Water Oversight Committee. Now it pays employees hired by a statewide nonprofit organization with an established circuit rider program.
The act's sunset provision was removed. The previous version stated the act would stand repealed on June 30, 2026 (a date before its own effective date of July 1, 2026, which appears to have been a drafting error). The current version simply states the act takes effect July 1, 2026 with no repeal date, making it permanent.
