HB 1687 requires Mississippi's Department of Information and Technology Services, in collaboration with the Secretary of State, to establish mandatory cybersecurity standards for county election systems by January 1, 2027. These standards must protect voter registration and election data integrity, including requiring annual compliance assessments for county registrars and election commissioners. Failure to meet the standards could result in funding restrictions from the Elections Support Fund. Assessment results are confidential but may be reviewed by the State Auditor for oversight purposes.
