HB 1411 would have required public and private K-12 schools in Mississippi to annually test natural gas piping systems using qualified plumbers before each school year. Schools must report test results to gas suppliers and the State Department of Education, and suppliers would disconnect service if hazardous leaks were identified. The bill also set deadlines for implementation (2026 for some provisions, 2027 for most) and allowed gas utilities to offer financial assistance for compliance. However, the bill died in committee in February 2026 and did not become law.
