SB 2547 would have prohibited Mississippi state, county, and municipal agencies from giving preferential treatment or creating minority set-aside contracts for public contracts based on race, ethnicity, or sex. It specifically banned government entities from favoring businesses owned by African Americans, Hispanic/Latinos, Asians, American Indians/Alaska Natives, or women in procurement decisions. The bill defined "minority business" to include these categories and required agencies to treat all businesses equally in public contracting. This change would have affected all government purchasing processes and businesses seeking public contracts across Mississippi. The bill died in committee in February 2025 and was never enacted.
