SB 2494 amends Mississippi's wrongful death law to allow families to recover medical and other expenses the deceased incurred before death, in addition to standard damages. It clarifies that these pre-death costs can be claimed regardless of whether the estate's legal representative is involved in the lawsuit. The bill also specifies how recovered damages must be distributed among surviving family members (spouse, children, parents, etc.) according to existing inheritance rules, without requiring estate involvement.
