HB 794 Mississippi House · 2025 Regular Session

Corporal punishment; require school districts that allow, to adopt a policy allowing parents to opt in.

HB 794 requires Mississippi school districts that use corporal punishment to create a written policy allowing parents or guardians to voluntarily opt their children into the discipline program. Parents must submit a written request for inclusion each school year, and withdrawal must also be in writing. The policy mandates annual written notice to parents about their option to opt in or out, and prohibits corporal punishment for any student whose parent has not opted them into the program. This bill does not apply to students with disabilities, who are already prohibited from corporal punishment under existing law.
