HB 607 would prohibit Mississippi public school districts from using public funds to pay the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSA) for regulating high school athletics and activities after July 1, 2026. It also creates a 10-member study commission (including legislators, school officials, and parents) to examine current regulation practices and propose reforms by December 2025. The bill establishes a court appeals process for schools disagreeing with MHSA decisions, allowing them to challenge rulings in circuit court within 15 days. The measure died in the Education Committee on February 4, 2025, and did not advance further.
