HB 1709 would have provided $430,000 in state funds to the City of Carthage for specific police department programs and projects during fiscal year 2026. The funds would have been used for $325,000 to purchase crime prevention technology (including license plate readers, live cameras in high-crime areas, and an Evidence IQ device for cartridge analysis) and $105,000 to buy two new police SUVs. The bill died in committee in February 2025 and did not become law.
