Elections: candidates; deadline for the replacement of candidate; provide for. Amends secs. 165, 169, 195, 198, 255, 260, 352 & 357 of 1954 PA 116 (MCL 168.165 et seq.).

Section 165 now requires replacement candidates for state senator or representative offices to be selected by 3 delegates elected by precinct delegates and nominees, rather than by county executive committees, when the district spans multiple counties.

Section 169 clarifies the process for selecting replacement candidates when a candidate dies, withdraws, or becomes disqualified, specifying that county executive committees must meet and select replacements by majority vote for districts within one county.

New Section 198(1) and (2) restrict candidate withdrawal to cases where the candidate has moved from the county or district, or become physically unfit, preventing arbitrary withdrawals.

New Section 198(3) allows county executive committees to select replacement candidates when a nominated candidate dies more than 55 days before the election.

New Section 198(4) and (5) prohibit filling vacancies through county executive committees except as provided in the section, while allowing withdrawal of candidates nominated without filing petitions or fees.

Section 255 and 260 update procedures for county road commissioner vacancies, requiring county committees to meet and select replacements by majority vote when candidates die, withdraw, or become disqualified.

Section 352 clarifies that county executive committees can select township replacement candidates if 3 or more committee members reside in the township, otherwise the full committee may select.

New Section 357 allows township election commissioners to provide blank spaces on ballots for electors to write in names for filling vacancies when a nominated candidate dies, moves, or becomes disqualified.
