Education: other; purple star school program; create. Amends 1976 PA 451 (MCL 380.1 - 380.1852) by adding sec. 1138a.

This bill directs the Michigan Department of Education to establish a Purple Star School program by January 1, 2026, which will recognize public schools that provide specific support for military-connected students and their families. To qualify for this designation, schools must appoint a military liaison to assist with enrollment and services, maintain a dedicated webpage with resources, and offer professional development for staff on related issues. Additionally, qualifying schools must implement student-led transition programs and offer at least one initiative, such as monthly recognition events or partnerships with the armed forces, to foster community engagement. The program defines military-connected pupils as those who are family members of current or former service members, including those killed in the line of duty.
