SD 76 Massachusetts Senate · 194th Legislature (2025-2026)

An Act reforming auto body labor rates

This bill establishes an Auto Body Labor Rate Advisory Board to determine fair hourly labor rates for auto repairs. The board, composed of 12 members representing insurance, repair shops, dealers, vocational schools, and consumers, will annually collect industry data - including labor rates, costs, and inflation - and recommend a minimum rate. Insurers must pay at least $55 per hour for repairs by registered auto shops, effective 30 days after the commissioner sets the rate based on the board's findings. The board must submit its annual report to state legislative committees by December 31 each year.
