An Act to establish an integrated cultural studies curriculum in our schools

This bill requires Massachusetts public schools to develop and implement an integrated cultural studies curriculum for all grades K-12, focusing on the history and perspectives of underrepresented racial groups including African-Americans, Asian-Americans, Indigenous Americans, and Latin-Americans. It establishes an advisory council with specific community representatives (such as teachers of color, NAACP leaders, and cultural organization directors) to design the curriculum, conduct surveys of current school curricula, and produce annual reports. The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education must update core subject frameworks (like History and English) to include the curriculum and mandate school districts to adopt it. The curriculum must address racism, promote critical analysis of bias, and include diverse cultural narratives to foster student understanding and respectful communication.
