An Act authorizing municipalities to opt-in to a temporary pilot to extend the hours of liquor licenses and to allow for public consumption in designated districts in summer 2026

This bill allows Massachusetts cities and towns to vote on a temporary pilot program for summer 2026 that expands alcohol sales and consumption rules. Under the plan, municipalities could let licensed businesses sell alcohol for off-premises consumption within specific designated districts and extend on-premises hours until 3:00 a.m. during the period from June 8 to July 31, 2026. The law also permits local communities to create zones where alcohol can be consumed in public spaces, provided the drinks were purchased from participating businesses inside those zones. If a town chooses not to participate, these expanded rules will not apply to its establishments.
