An Act responding to the threat of invasive species

This bill creates a new Invasive Species Trust Fund in Massachusetts to support efforts against invasive plants and animals. The fund will be financed by specific state appropriations, donations, and a voluntary fee added to hunting, fishing, and trapping licenses. Money from the fund can be used to pay for research, pilot projects, and grants that help municipalities and organizations control invasive species, with priority given to stopping new infestations. Grants for ongoing maintenance projects can cover up to 75% of costs for a maximum of five years. Applicants must also submit a management plan that outlines how they will control the species while protecting other local wildlife.
