An Act relative to special state police officers

This bill allows the colonel of the state police to hire retired uniformed officers as special state police officers to assist with police duties. To qualify, retired officers must have received an honorable discharge, retired within the last three years due to age, and be under 68 years old. The colonel will determine their training, equipment, and deployment, while these officers will serve as at-will employees for one-year terms that can be renewed at the colonel's discretion. Unlike regular state police, these special officers will not be covered by civil service laws or entitled to those specific benefits, though they will be considered department members for certain legal purposes.
